Sarasota, Florida Gets New PGA Tour Superstore
Big box retailer PGA TOUR Superstore continues bucking industry trends by opening new locations in Plantation and Sarasota this summer bringing the total of instate stores to seven. Existing Florida locations include Naples, Delray, Jacksonville and two in Orlando.
Nationwide PGA TOUR Superstore has 39 locations and plans to open 6-7 new locations annually for the foreseeable future.
PGA TOUR Superstore is owned by Arthur M. Blank, one of the founders of Home Depot and current owner of the Atlanta Falcons NFL franchise and the Atlanta United FC, MLS franchise, and operates under a license from the Ponte Vedra based PGA TOUR.
Florida Gator Leads Charge
In an era of industry shrinkage, what does PGA TOUR Superstore know that others don’t?
According to Matt Corey, Chief Marketing Officer (and University of Florida graduate) the answer is simple to say but a lot of work to implement.
“What we offer is an unrivaled customer experience.” he says. “First of all there is nothing you can’t find in our stores plus customers can come in for a hands on experience which includes hitting bays, simulators and putting greens. Our policy of helping golfers to play their best allows us to open stores when others are closing.”
“Our people are not on commission,” says Corey. “We are experiential and not transactional. Our goal is to create a long term relationship and not just one sale. We allow people to demo clubs and if their swing isn’t up to the equipment we will give them lessons from our on staff teaching pros until it is.”
Growing the Game
PGA TOUR Superstore also invests in the future by offering clinics for children, women only clinics, multiple teaching professionals at each location and making over $500,000 in donations to local First Tee Chapters.
More to Come in Florida
“We like Florida a lot,” says Corey. “We can open more and this is just the beginning for us. While most of our stores are in the 40,000 square foot range we also have a smaller scale like our 20,000 square foot Jacksonville location so we can adjust to the local market if necessary.”
