I teach golfers a proven mental formula to improve their consistency from tee to green so they can lower their handicap and love their game.

The Game

Florida Golf and Leisure is honored to announce that Dr Shannon Reece, a sports psychologist, has come on board as a regular contributor on the mental aspect of golf.

Based in Naples, Dr Reece owns and operates Training for Optimal Performance and has been helping golfers realize their potential for over 20 years.

A postgraduate of the University of Virginia , she earned her Masters and Doctorate degrees under the tutelage of legendary sports psychologist Dr Bob Rotella. Dr Reece’s interest was borne of her own challenges as an elite figure skater in her youth.

“I was a competitive figure skater and trained 4-6 hours per day, six days a week on ice and that didn’t include the conditioning training, ballet and choreography sessions. As a competitive athlete, my biggest challenge was with competitive anxiety. I would freeze up in competition and my coaches didn’t know how to help.”

That dilemma led Dr Reece to be one of six applicants accepted into Dr Rotella’s newly created Masters program at the University of Virginia and eventually one of only three accepted in to the Doctorate program.
“Through my graduate training, I discovered the keys to unlocking the mental side of performance and finally understood why I struggled so much,” said Dr Reece. “Since completing my Masters degree I’ve been working to help athletes to reach greater performance levels by leveraging the power of their minds.”

Since moving to Southwest Florida in 2005 99% of Dr Reece’s work has been with golfers.

Dr Reece will be contributing regularly to Florida Golf and Leisure and will also be answering selected readers questions
