Florida Golf & Leisure
Welcome to Florida Golf and Leisure. It is my distinct pleasure to launch the first digital publication to cover the entire golf scene in this great state. We intend to be your statewide source of all things golf provided in a knowledgeable and lively manner.
Like many residents of Florida I am not from here but I am very happy to call this beautiful place my home now. Originally from New England, I’ve been coming to Florida since my late teens when I drove my parents to their winter home on Treasure Island in St Petersburg. I’ve loved it here ever since I saw my first palm tree and got a whiff of the salt air. Oh, and being able to tee it up in February when everyone up North is huddled by the fireplace.
Florida today is such a dynamic place with exciting things happening from the Panhandle to the Keys. The state is growing and the economy is booming. With over 20 million residents and counting and over 113 million visitors last year Florida is like no other place for happy and active people.
Golf is a huge part of what makes Florida so attractive. Florida is home to more than 1,300 golf courses that operate year round and provide recreation for our residents and visitors and employment for our residents.
Some of the world’s finest golf resorts are located in Florida as well as many great public access golf courses and the state provides a large number of fabulous golf communities built by outstanding development companies.
Florida is also home to three of the major golf organizations in the world- the PGA TOUR, the LPGA Tour and the PGA of America. The World Golf Hall of Fame is located in St Augustine.
We are also the home of the two greatest golfers of our time- Jack Nicklaus of West Palm Beach and Tiger Woods of Jupiter.
Our great state also hosts many professional golf tournaments including the PGA TOUR’s Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, The Honda Classic at PGA National Resort and Spa in West Palm Beach, The Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort near Tampa and Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Invitational in Orlando . The LPGA’s season ending CME Globe Championship is held at Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Naples as is the Shark Shootout. The PGA TOUR Champions play the Allianz Championship in Boca Raton, The Chubb Classic in Naples and the PNC Father Son Challenge at the Ritz Carlton Resort in Orlando.
The Orange County Convention Center in Orlando annually hosts the PGA Merchandise Show in January where over 40,000 members of the golf industry from 74 countries gather each year.
We hope you enjoy reading Florida Golf and Leisure and invite you to enjoy all the Sunshine State has to offer.
